Many clients share they are hesitant and have feelings of nervousness when exploring online therapy. During initial meet and greets with clients, most clients pose the question to us about our clinical setting – “why online vs in person”? 1) Online Therapy Benefits: Travel and convenience: Sitting from the comfort of your own home, you don’t have to stress about leaving work or home to drive to your appointment. Our clients share that they save time and money by not driving to their appointments. When you have a one- hour appointment, it’s just that, an hour of your time - you don’t have to worry about travel time, parking and navigating traffic or buses! 2) Online Therapy Benefits: Physical/Mental Health limitations: Some clients are unable to leave on their own without assistance. This allows greater access to mental health supports for individuals who have limitations. Online therapy prevents barriers to allow everyone equal opportunity to have access to mental health supports. 3) Online Therapy Benefits: Comfort: What is better than sitting in a comfy chair, on your deck or having the option to walk freely around the living room. You can grab a water, Kleenex or a comfy blanket during sessions. Also, sessions from home are completely private and confidential. You don’t have to worry about red eyes in the elevator, seeing anyone you may know in the waiting room on the way out, or even about sound travelling through the walls in a public space! 4) Online Therapy Benefits: Location: Online allows therapy options for anyone living in remote locations where limited resources are available. A portion of our clients live in rural locations where mental health supports are hours away from their home. 5) Online Therapy Benefits: Same therapist – different space: We provide the same therapy from the comfort of your home. We share resources through screen sharing and email all documents for your own reference. In our practice, we have continued to see client's benefit and meet their goals in the same way that they did with in person therapy, if not better. In fact, many studies have shown that online therapy has the same success rate than traditional in person. If you have more questions about what online therapy sessions look like, please reach out to our clinic. One of our therapists will be happy to discuss options with you.
