No two children are exactly alike. As a parent or caregiver you intrinsically know this.

How you support children then, will never be identical either.

Children's psychological testing and assessments provide an incredible opportunity to learn more about your child and what they need to be empowered and supported.

Our team offers a wrap around approach to families who are seeking child assessments. Therapists are available to provide support and strategies to parents and a highly skilled and trained therapist is the lead for the overall support of the family and direct contact and assessment for the child. Consenting for therapists to work together as a team from one agency allows for parents to be reassured that professionals are communicating and aware of primary goals and desired outcomes and approaches.

First, our child psychologist, Shaheena, who is passionate about empowering children, will start by first connecting with involved adults, including professionals such as therapists or teachers to thoroughly understand and investigate what the current challenges are and what contributing factors may have instigate or be contributing to them.

Second, she will use various different rating scales to assess academic and cognitive levels - this is sometimes done in person on an IPAD using COVID respectful strategies.

These scales will give insight to social, emotional and behavioral functioning.

This usually takes more than one session so she can properly assess the child and omit any factors that may be anomalies (ie. child is tired that day).

Next, she will generate a highly thorough report which may include a diagnosis, suspected contributing diagnosis, suggestions and recommendations. This will include strategies for the child and impacting adults.

If caregivers wish, this report can be provided to the school so staff are able to understand the child better and what strategies are effective. If parents consent, communication can occur between the psychologist and the school including if there is a school psychologist.

In your final meeting the family and the child psychologist, Shaheena, will meet to discuss the interpretations, answer any questions, address any barriers to strategies and develop an ongoing plan for support!

If you have further questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to Shaheena HERE!
