EMDR Therapy
Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing

What is EDMR Therapy?

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy is an integrative psychotherapy approach that has been extensively researched and proven effective for the treatment of trauma and other causes of distress.

EMDR Therapy reprocesses how a memory network is stored and functioning so that your maladaptive memories are stored in a more adaptive way.

This means that EMDR Therapy helps you to resolve memories so they are not intrusive - uninvited or influencing you in ways you don't want to be.

EMDR Therapy is different from talk therapy. EDMR sessions have less talking and more focus on you working through carefully selected images in your mind with a highly trained therapist so that you yourself are doing the healing and the therapist is simply there as a guide to support you.

Many patients prefer EMDR Therapy where the client does not continue to repeat the traumatic story. Repeating or writing down a traumatic story can in fact re-traumatize you since it comes from a different part of the brain!

EMDR is frequently used to treat mild to severe trauma including PTSD - however, it is also proven to be effective for depression, anxiety, attachment, grief, high-performance situations such as in social situations, athletics, child birthing, job interviews, presentations & other workplace circumstances.
